The Canoe — Full Film from Goh Iromoto on Vimeo.
“If it is love that binds people to places in this nation of rivers and in this river of nations then one enduring expression of that simple truth, is surely the canoe.”
This film by Goh Iromoto captures the human connection and bond created by Canada’s well-known craft & symbol, the canoe. Through the stories of five paddlers across the province of Ontario, Canada - a majestic background both in it’s landscape & history - the film underscores the strength of the human spirit and how the canoe can be a vessel for creating deep and meaningful connections.

June 30, 2020 - Learn to Paddle Program during the COVID-19 Pandemic: A 24-Minute Video of Our First Day
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Canoe and Camera Club directors met multiple times to discuss the upcoming paddling season and how to safely open to the public. After careful consideration, the directors created a COVID-19 Protocol document to guide the club and its participants during this time. We also placed informative posters around the clubhouse to remind everyone of the guidelines. Once the preparations were in place, the club opened its doors and began offering the Learn to Paddle program. The certified instructors planned accordingly, taking into consideration the COVID-19 regulations in our province to ensure the success of the program. The response to our paddling program was overwhelming! It was evident that many people were eager to get out of the house after being cooped up during the pandemic. Looking back, it is interesting to see how the club implemented precautions, such as keeping a 2-metre distance, and positioning canoes away from each other, to protect everyone from possible infection. Kudos to the club's Chair Dave Lewis and Vice Chair Adam Leuschner, who are also certified canoe instructors, for doing a fantastic job teaching the Learn to Paddle program. This 24-minute video simply shows the first day of the program. The work didn’t end there as equipment was disinfected after each use for the entire duration of the program.

Compilation Video
This video is broken down in three sections. The first part displays photos of our new clubhouse under construction in the summer and fall of 2018. It continues with photos of our Chair, David Lewis, navigating our club canoe float through the streets of Liverpool during the 2019 Privateer Days Parade. The video continues to roll along with images of our members participating in paddling and photographic events. The second part of the video is a compilation of several moving images during the first day of Canoe School in June 2019. The last section of the video creatively displays the photographic submissions from our members photo challenges taken throughout the year in 2019.
2019 Photo Submissions
The camera club has been moving along nicely since our first meetup back in May 2019. We meet every three weeks and are given two photo challenges to complete over those weeks. Members submit their digital photos and we project each image on a large screen to discuss. Some of the photo challenges include: macro, leading lines, intentional camera movement, negative space, city streets in B&W, textures, still life, among many more.
Members creativity and skills have grown considerably so we wanted to celebrate 2019 by showing you a video of some of the photos that were submitted over the course of eight months together.
Come join us and see where your photography takes you!
