Paddling Instructor - Beginner Level

The Milton Canoe and Camera Club is seeking a Paddling Instructor – Beginner Level to fill a part-time summer position, between 2 and 5 hours per week, depending on instructor availability. This will include instruction to beginner paddlers of all ages in a program called “Learn to Paddle” which is a one-and-a-half-hour program running over 8 weeks from the end of June into August. The successful candidate will be a competent paddler who is socially comfortable with all ages.

Responsibilities.

Follow Beginner Paddler Program given by MCCC in the past
Provide a safe environment for beginners including cleaning equipment, keeping canoe storage tidy, and equipment in good shape
Ensuring that participants understand proper handling and use of PFD’s, canoes, paddles, and bailers
Interact with MCCC Board Member on duty to ensure proper delivering of program

Certifications Required

Waterfront Instructor (Paddle Canada) or equivalent
First Aid and CPR
Criminal Background and vulnerable sector check
Interested persons with some canoe experience can be helped with training before session starts

Skills Required

Experience with the sport of Canoeing
Competencies in Working with Others
Competencies in Working with all ages
Ability to attend to multiple paddlers in the water

Other

Must be 16 years of age by June 15, 2022
Must provide letter of reference with contact information of provider
Must be vaccinated against COVID
Starting Date: week of July 4 Ending date: week of Aug 22

Pay
$20/hour

Manual Mode - Instructional Session

Members on Thursday May 19th, 6:30PM at the Milton Christian Church, MCCC member Henk von Pickartz will explain everything we need to know about our cameras set to manual mode. Henk has asked that we all bring our cameras so we can follow along as he explains the different manual settings. If time allows we can also breakout into smaller groups to ask questions and discuss what we just learned.

Canoe Share

Another great season of paddling is around the corner and we have an exciting program that everyone should know about. But first, we would like to ask for your help. Help us spread the word. The program is called Canoe Share.

The concept behind Canoe Share is simple. During the paddling season you’ll have access to our dock. Bring your canoe, kayak or paddle board and enjoy exclusive access from our dock into the Mersey River. If you don’t have a canoe or the equipment to paddle, no problem. We’ll give you access to that too.

Become a member and begin paddling with our Canoe Share Program.
